Cider X Sad Girls Club: Mental Health Awareness Month

Cider X Sad Girls Club: Mental Health Awareness Month

May is here and so is Mental Health Awareness Month. This year, we're excited to announce that we're collaborating with Sad Girls Club, a global non-profit based in NYC that destigmatizes mental illness, to create a collection that celebrates all moods – even the not-so-happy ones! Plus, we'll be donating 5% of the collab's net sales towards Sad Girls Club's initiatives. Eeeep!

Let's meet some of the incredible members of the Sad Girls Club community as they share their stories, self-care tips, inspirations, and more! And remember that no matter what you're going through, you are not alone. πŸ’•

Meet Christal: Musician and writer based in Los Angeles.

✨ Story with Sad Girls Club:

"I first found Sad Girls Club around 2020, and have been grateful for all the great resources they offer. Growing up, I sometimes find it difficult to talk about my feelings, especially the negative ones, but Sad Girls Club has taught me how to be expressive of my feelings and not shut them down."

"Sad Girls Club's chat room has been really helpful β€” it allows me to check in with myself and with members of the community, making sure that I stay grounded and in tune with how I'm feeling. If you're seeking a supportive community, I highly recommend you check it out!"

πŸ’“ Self-care tips:

"Do breathwork and stay connected with people and nature. (I also just got my sound healing certification last year!)."

🌟 Sources of inspiration:

  • Nature: "I find the process of death and rebirth in nature inspiring."
  • Women: "Women are usually put in situations that root moments of insecurity and silence. It's always inspiring to see women who show up as their authentic selves."
  • Other artists and singers: "I know how vulnerable it can be on stage, so watching other artists and singers performing on stage as their true selves has always been inspiring."

πŸ’ Words to the SGC community (or those struggling):

"It's always going to be a journey. You're never completely 'healed'. Sometimes you can feel defeated. The most you can do is to be gentle to yourself, and believe there's always a light at the end of the tunnel."

Meet Kirsten: Human Resources/Career Branding Specialist, who's also a digital creator, podcast host, and entrepreneur.

✨ Story with Sad Girls Club:

"I found Sad Girls Club around the time when I got into a major car accident last year. The recovery process from the injury was long and dark, but seeing all the positive posts from Sad Girls Club on social media really helped me stay positive."

"SGC is a great place where people can share their stories and genuinely talk about their feelings, especially when everything is supposed to be glam on social media. And seeing others share their stories has made me not afraid to share mine."

πŸ’“ Self-care tips:

"Whenever you have negative thoughts, start speaking to yourself in a positive voice β€” you can be sad and productive and kind to yourself."

🌟 Sources of inspiration:

  • "Knowing that you're not alone, and not shameful to be depressed."
  • "Speaking kindly to yourself & being intentional in what you do."
  • "Always knowing that everything bad is just temporary."

πŸ’ Words to the SGC community (or those struggling):

"Be intentional with everything you do and say. If something feels right, don't doubt it, just do it."

Meet Pearl: College student, Libra girl, and fan of painting.

✨ Story with Sad Girls Club:

"I learned about Sad Girls Club from a friend who provides mental health support through breathwork and meditation. After a long break from social media, Sad Girls Club has helped me stay grounded again. Sad Girls Club has always been supportive, whether through Instagram DMs that are always open, or talk therapy('Remedy') where there's always someone to listen and check up on you. The community has made me feel less alone and supported by an amazing diverse group of women who may be feeling just like you."

πŸ’“ Self-care tips:

"A helpful exercise I learned from the Sad Girls Club community: write positive things to yourself on post-it notes, put them on the mirror, and read them out loud β€” it may feel a bit odd at the beginning, but it actually makes you feel good."

🌟 Sources of inspiration:

"A quote by Alice Walker (from a post of Sad Girls Club): 'Look closely at the present you are constructing: it should look like the future you are dreaming.'"

πŸ’ Words to the SGC community (or those struggling):

"Your mind is the only thing you can control β€” don't underestimate the power of your mind and always believe you can achieve what you want!"

Meet Melissa: Nature lover and people person.

✨ Story with Sad Girls Club:

"I found Sad Girls Club when I was going through a lot of transitions in my life, from school to career, and from family to relationships. I really liked the name 'Sad Girls Club' because I think it really speaks to me. Sometimes I get emotional easily when things don't work out, whether it's dealing with imposter syndrome or a difficult breakup, but Sad Girls Club taught me that it's okay to be vulnerable. After all, you can't control what the universe gives you. The only thing you can control is how you react to it."

πŸ’“ Self-care tips:

"When I'm having a bad day, I'd do what would make me happy as a kid β€” watch cartoons or eat a comfort meal. Or I'd go to nature, like the beach. I'd also talk to 'little Melissa' β€” it's important to listen to your inner voice!"

🌟 Sources of inspiration:

  • Women: "I think women are usually undervalued!"
  • Nature: "It's inspiring to think that nature has the power to function with or without humans."
  • Love: "It's a choice. But it can really make a difference. Everyone wants to be loved. It's in our DNA."

πŸ’ Words to the SGC community (or those struggling):

"It's okay to cry."

It's not always easy to talk about our feelings. Trust us, we get it! It can be scary to be vulnerable sometimes. However, we hope you remember that every mood or any feelings you have are a part of what makes you unique and YOU. Feeling sad is normal, and it's time we start talking about it!
